Zwischen Liebe und Vernunft. Drei Modelle von Patriotismus in Theorie und Praxis

Das Verhältnis von Emotion und Kognition beim Patriotismus ist eine wichtige, empirisch bislang aber zu wenig analysierte Frage. Diese Forschungslücke wird besonders im Kontext der Diskussion um Verfassungspatriotismus deutlich, den Dolf Sternberger in den 1970er Jahren als Verbindung emotionaler und kognitiver Bindungen konzipiert hat. In diesem Beitrag wird nachgewiesen, dass Verfassungspatriotismus nicht nur ein theoretisches Konzept ist, sondern auch von vielen Bürgern gelebt wird. Dazu werden zunächst drei theoretische Patriotismusmodelle entwickelt und diskutiert. Anschließend wird ihre empirische Relevanz am Beispiel Deutschlands mithilfe einer Analyse repräsentativer Umfragedaten überprüft. Dabei zeigt sich, dass in Deutschland rationale, emotionale und Verfassungspatrioten leben. Emotionen spielen also eine wichtige Rolle in der politischen Praxis – und sollten entsprechend im Kontext politischer Theoriebildung stärker beachtet werden.Downloads
