Die politische Gleichheit der Bürger charakterisiert nach Robert Dahl die Demokratie und unterscheidet sie von anderen politischen Systemen. Die politische Gleichheit meint, dass die Interessen der Bürger gleich berücksichtigt werden. Der beste Ausdruck der politischen Gleichheit sind das gleiche Wahlrecht und das gleiche Gewicht der Stimmen der Bürger im politischen Prozess. In den USA nimmt die politische Gleichheit ab. Dies liegt vor allem am zunehmenden Einfluss des Geldes auf die Politik. Geld ist sehr ungleich verteilt und verschafft einigen Bürgern einen größeren Einfluss auf die Politik als anderen. Neben der Verringerung der sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Ungleichheit besteht eine bislang wenig beachtete Möglichkeit in der konsequenten Stärkung der gleichen Stimme der Bürger im politischen System.
